“We all have a responsibility to help safeguard the environment, personally, in business and as an industry as a whole,” states James Conn, CEO of UK Greetings.

UK Greetings take the issue of the environment very seriously and recognize the importance of eliminating plastic from our process. As a result we have established an ‘Environmental Steering Group’ who are reviewing our end-to-end processes including product, manufacturing and distribution to drive our ‘reducing avoidable waste’ project forward.

We’re also working with our retail partners to understand what strategies they are implementing to meet this change in government legislation and offering solutions to support their pledges.

And it doesn’t stop there, as part of our commitment to ‘reduce avoidable waste’ we have launched an internal campaign called #PlasticFreeFriday. The aim of the campaign is to raise awareness of new initiatives we’re introducing at UKG sites to help reduce our plastic footprint. As part of the campaign we have removed all plastic cups from water fountains and coolers across UKG sites and replaced then with drinking glasses. We’re offering a 10p discount on all Costa Coffee purchases when you use your own thermos cup instead of using Costa Coffee cups provided. To kick-start this initiative we sold reusable thermos cups in the MSE Canteen for a discounted price of £2 for staff to use moving forward, all cups had been sold by 9:15am at our Mill Street East site!!

Rachel Wood, one of the member of UKG’s Environmental Steering Group commented on #PlasticFreeFriday campaign stating, “We have received lots of positive feedback and it’s great to see how everyone at UKG has embraced this positive change”.
