Humour Greeting Cards

Laughter is the best medicine, it’s infectious, makes you feel good and the joyful feeling stays with you even after the laughter subsides. A big belly laugh, little snigger or even just a smirk is enough to brightening someone’s day - just hearing laughter triggers smiles and delight from everyone in the room.

Humour cards are the perfect remedy for making someone’s day and the combination of sentiment and humour is sure to make them smile. Consumers feel they can get away with more when sending humour cards to those closest to them, so push the boundaries knowing they’ll be forgiven in the end!

When it comes to buying relation or occasion cards, customers look for humour cards which relates to the recipient, so mocking humour for those who might be ‘getting on a bit’, comparison humour for the man with bad habits or sarcastic humour from the kids.

Added value is also key when splashing out on someone who means the world to us so extras in humour, such as badges, pop-ups, or a larger format card are popular choices, especially in relation captions. However in specialist and stand alone, senders still remaining a little cheeky but are much more sensitive in their definitive message.

Alison Callaway, Senior Product Manager at Hanson White says; “Consumers who are in the market for humour cards have to be amused and their priority is that the card makes them laugh while still having the correct, relatable message for the sending situation”.

General non-captioned sends, tend to be simple in format with a focus on the joke or visual.

A recent example of humour cards from the Hanson White catalogue is Harry Hills, Take on Tate where the award-winning Comedian who is also a talented, if not a tad absurd, artist has added his own personal touch to some of the fantastic paintings from the Tate archives.

The humour cards feature some of the popular imagery from Britain’s most renowned museum with an amusing, witty and typically ‘Harry Hill’ twist.

Alison explains how inspiration for a humour range can come from the most unlikely of places. “We get brainwaves when we least expect it, a great example is our new range All Fingers and Thumbs, which was inspired by a high street bank”.

Artist Hannah Turpin was inspired to create the range after seeing a simple fingerprint graphic on the internet security section of her online banking website, which inspired a range of characters with boggley eyes.

For all the independent, chocolate loving, wine swigging women there are our female targeted humour cards featuring some great punch lines, quirky, sassy characters and added bling!

Socks and the City for example is a card range with its feet freely in the air, without breaking any of the rules. Created in the larger format, and great value, these whipcrack, sharp, zesty, ‘grab me ‘n’ go’ designs, with woman-to-woman gags are relatable, mischievous and certainly stand out from the crowd!

As a nation of animal lovers it’s not surprising that all things cute and cuddly are also popular in the humour market. Chimps and monkeys especially are constantly donning the greeting card racks, they’re funny, intelligent and humanlike, and their evolvement to humans plays a big part in targeted humour cards.
