Support And Develop Our Employees

We recognise the need to provide appropriate development and learning opportunities as well as the right culture, environment and infrastructure for our employees.

We know that how people feel at and about work reflects on work performance.  This also impacts upon how employees respond to customers – both internal and external - and how they support colleagues.

UK Greetings aims to be an employer of choice by providing a safe, happy and creative place in which to work.

We have a range of policies to support our employees. These include:

  • A comprehensive benefits package.
  • Delivering an extensive training programme to our employees ranging from senior management programmes to basic computer skills. Resulting in over 2,500 days of off-job training in 2008.
  • Sponsoring many employees who wish to develop their potential by undertaking academic programmes at University.
  • Offering formal development programmes for modern apprenticeships as well as NVQ upskilling programmes for employees in our manufacturing division.
  • 67% of our senior managers have been promoted from within.
  • A robust appraisal system.
  • Exit interviews allow us to understand what people enjoy about their experience of working at UK Greetings…and provide learning for areas that we could do differently.
  • We have a high employee retention rate.

Health & Safety

Health and Safety Committees on our operational sites allow employees to become actively involved in promoting a safe working environment and a comprehensive system of occupational health surveillance has been established. This is evidenced in the reduction of accidents per hour year on year.

Since 2004, the company has seen a 36.6% reduction in accidents (figures to the end of 2008)

Since 2004, the company has seen a 25% reduction in serious RIDDOR accidents (figures to the end of 2008)

At 1.59%, our sickness/absence levels are below the National Average.

The Working Environment

UK Greetings’ manufacturing facility in Dewsbury is based in a state of the art factory but by contrast the Head Office is in an old textile mill, characteristic of the West Yorkshire area.  Great efforts have been made to ensure the external character of the ‘Queen’s Mill’ is maintained whilst internally, a modern working environment is provided. Our other sites around the country are housed in more recent, purpose built commercial premises.
