National Family Week
National Family Week is a celebratory event that will take place from 25th to 31st May 2009 throughout the UK to celebrate the importance of family life. This wonderful new occasion will highlight the social benefits of family life through various high profile activities and events around the country that involve schools, charities, local authorities, youth groups and shopping centres which will involve family members of all ages. Themed days have been created for families to take part in and have fun - Monday 25th May will be ‘The Great Family Picnic’. It is a nation wide event that is taking place on Bank Holiday Monday to hold the world's biggest picnic and will even feature in the Guinness Book of Records. Wednesday 27th May is ‘Story Time’ which encourages storytelling in a variety of formats, throughout the day. It's any story, any time, anywhere, any family. ‘Story Time’ packs are available to download on the National Family Week website. Friday 29th May is ‘Film Friday’. Where all the family is encouraged to spend the evening together watching a film or visiting the cinema. Saturday 30th May is ‘Sports Day’ which will encourage families to participate or watch sporting events together. Finally, Sunday 31st May is Feast Sunday. All the family are to sit down together whether it be to a traditional Sunday lunch at home or lunch out and about – it’s all about quality time together.
